Terms of service
Last updated: 25 September 2026. These terms govern your use of https://alttypist.com (the "Site"), operated by Blame Media Pty Ltd ("we", "us", "our"). By using the Site you agree to them. If you do not agree, please do not use the Site. The Site is free and does not require an account, so these terms are deliberately short and written in plain English.
1. What the Site is
Alt Typist is a reference website and set of browser tools for finding, copying and typing symbols, accented letters and emoji. It is provided for general information. It is not professional, legal, technical-support or accessibility advice, and nothing on it creates a contract to provide any service to you.
2. Using the characters
Every symbol, letter and emoji on the Site is a character defined by the Unicode Standard. Characters are not owned by us or by anyone; you may copy and use them freely, for personal or commercial purposes, without attribution. Some characters (for example the Apple logo at U+F8FF, or registered trademark symbols) may be subject to trademark or other rights when used in particular contexts; that is between you and the rights holder.
3. Our content
The written guides, page design, code, generated data tables, diagrams and the Alt Typist name and mark are owned by Blame Media Pty Ltd or its licensors and protected by copyright and trademark law. You may:
- read, print and share individual pages for personal, educational or internal business use;
- quote short excerpts with a link back to the source page;
- link to any page from anywhere.
You may not, without written permission: copy or scrape the Site in bulk; republish our guides, tables or data on another site or in a product; remove our attribution; or use our name or mark to suggest we endorse you. Unicode data, HTML entity names and code page tables are public standards and are not claimed by us.
4. The tools
The tools (copy and paste, converters, generators, the keyboard tester and similar) run in your browser. Text you type into a tool is processed on your device and is not sent to us. Tools are provided free and as they are; we do not guarantee that a generated result will display or be accepted in any particular app, platform or username field, because that depends on the fonts and rules of the destination.
5. Acceptable use
You agree not to use the Site to break the law, to harass or impersonate anyone, to interfere with the Site's operation (including automated requests that place an unreasonable load on it), to circumvent security measures, or to build a competing dataset by bulk extraction. We may block access from any source that abuses the Site.
6. Accuracy
We work hard to keep every code and shortcut correct: character data is generated from the Unicode Character Database and shortcuts are tested on current operating systems. Even so, operating systems, apps and keyboards change, and a method that works on one device may not work on another. Information is provided as is and we do not warrant that it is complete, current or error-free. If something does not work, please tell us and we will fix it.
7. Third-party links and services
Guides may link to other websites and mention third-party products. We do not control them, do not endorse them unless we say so, and are not responsible for their content, availability or practices.
8. Advertising and affiliate disclosure
The Site is currently ad-free. We may in future display advertising or include affiliate links, under which we could earn a commission if you buy something after clicking a link, at no extra cost to you. Any such links will be disclosed on the pages where they appear, and advertisers and affiliate partners have no influence over the information we publish. Prices, availability and specifications of third-party products can change and should be confirmed with the seller.
9. Disclaimer of warranties
To the maximum extent permitted by law, the Site and everything on it are provided "as is" and "as available" without warranties of any kind, whether express or implied, including fitness for a particular purpose, accuracy and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the Site will be uninterrupted, secure or free of errors.
10. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by law, Blame Media Pty Ltd and its directors, employees and contractors will not be liable for any indirect, incidental, special, consequential or punitive loss, or any loss of data, profit or goodwill, arising from your use of or inability to use the Site, even if we were advised of the possibility. Where liability cannot be excluded, it is limited to the amount you paid us to use the Site, which is nothing. Nothing in these terms excludes or limits any guarantee, right or remedy you have under the Australian Consumer Law or other law that cannot be excluded.
11. Indemnity
You agree to indemnify Blame Media Pty Ltd against claims, losses and costs arising from your breach of these terms or your unlawful use of the Site.
12. Privacy
How we handle personal data is described in our privacy policy, which forms part of these terms.
13. Changes to the Site and these terms
We may add, change or remove any part of the Site at any time. We may update these terms; the date at the top shows the latest version, and continued use after a change means you accept it.
14. General
If any part of these terms is found unenforceable, the rest continues to apply. Our failure to enforce a term is not a waiver of it. These terms and the privacy policy are the entire agreement between you and us about the Site.
15. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of New South Wales, Australia, and you submit to the non-exclusive jurisdiction of its courts. If you use the Site from elsewhere, you are responsible for complying with local law.
