About Hebrew letters

Hebrew has 22 letters and is written right to left. Five letters have a different form at the end of a word (ך ם ן ף ץ).

The standard Hebrew layout is not phonetic; macOS also offers Hebrew - QWERTY, which maps letters by sound.

Vowel points (niqqud) are optional and typed on Windows with Caps Lock plus Shift plus a key, or through the Hebrew - QWERTY layout on macOS.

How to switch your keyboard to Hebrew

Windows

Open Settings → Time & Language → Language & region, add Hebrew (or open the options for your language and add the Hebrew (Standard) keyboard). Switch layouts with Win+Space. The current layout is shown next to the clock.

Mac

Open System Settings → Keyboard → Input Sources → Edit, click +, and add Hebrew or Hebrew - QWERTY. Switch with Control+Space or from the input menu in the menu bar. Turn on Show Input menu in menu bar to see which layout is active.

iPhone and iPad

Open Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards → Add New Keyboard and choose Hebrew. Switch by holding the globe key on the keyboard.

Android

In Gboard, open Settings → Languages → Add keyboard and choose Hebrew. Switch by holding the space bar or tapping the globe key.
