About Portuguese letters

Portuguese uses the acute, grave, circumflex, tilde and cedilla. The tilde marks nasal vowels in words like não and pão.

Brazilian ABNT2 keyboards have a ç key and dead keys for all accents. The Portugal layout is similar.

The ordinal indicators º and ª are used for numbering (1º, 2ª).

How to switch your keyboard to Portuguese

Windows

Open Settings → Time & Language → Language & region, add Portuguese (or open the options for your language and add the Portuguese (Brazil ABNT2) or Portuguese (Portugal) keyboard). Switch layouts with Win+Space. The current layout is shown next to the clock.

Mac

Open System Settings → Keyboard → Input Sources → Edit, click +, and add Portuguese or Brazilian. Switch with Control+Space or from the input menu in the menu bar. Turn on Show Input menu in menu bar to see which layout is active.

iPhone and iPad

Open Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards → Add New Keyboard and choose Portuguese (Brazil) or Portuguese (Portugal). Switch by holding the globe key on the keyboard.

Android

In Gboard, open Settings → Languages → Add keyboard and choose Portuguese (Brazil). Switch by holding the space bar or tapping the globe key.
