About Italian letters

Italian mostly uses the grave accent, with the acute on é in words like perché. Accents on capitals are often written with an apostrophe (E') informally but È is correct.

The Italian layout has à, è, ì, ò, ù as dedicated keys and é on Shift+è.

On a Mac, Option+` then the vowel gives the grave accent.

How to switch your keyboard to Italian

Windows

Open Settings → Time & Language → Language & region, add Italian (or open the options for your language and add the Italian keyboard). Switch layouts with Win+Space. The current layout is shown next to the clock.

Mac

Open System Settings → Keyboard → Input Sources → Edit, click +, and add Italian. Switch with Control+Space or from the input menu in the menu bar. Turn on Show Input menu in menu bar to see which layout is active.

iPhone and iPad

Open Settings → General → Keyboard → Keyboards → Add New Keyboard and choose Italian. Switch by holding the globe key on the keyboard.

Android

In Gboard, open Settings → Languages → Add keyboard and choose Italian. Switch by holding the space bar or tapping the globe key.
